Abstract art for me is an emotional response to an image or feeling. I can never predict exactly how a painting will evolve. Rather, it is a journey of exploring colour, shape and texture.

Mixed media paintings . I love combining paint with paper, metal, stone and gold leaf to create interesting textures. The starting point for these works is often landscape, be it a crack in the rockface, the red maple in my backyard or a walk by the sea. The paintings evolve as I work, taking on a life of their own .

This heavily textured, mixed media painting was inspired by a cliff on a walk in Victoria, BC. It has cracks, fissures, glints of metal and rust reflecting variations of rock formations. Earthy tones of copper, ochre and burnt orange dominate.

Inspired by the view from Moss Rocks in Fairfield, Victoria, BC while looking at the Pacific ocean. I collaged washi, watercolor and natural rag papers onto the canvas to create a surf like texture, then painted into it.

Red is a colour of passion and energy. This composition is a swirling movement of colour and texture with contrasting light against dark and smooth against bumpy. Texture is created using pumice stone, thick paint and papers. The 3 panels can be arranged vertically or horizontally.
